03 / How we checked
38 best sellers, each matched to its US drug label
We took the top 50 of Amazon's Best Sellers in Facial Sunscreens on September 30, 2026 and matched each to its Drug Facts label in FDA's DailyMed. 38 matched one label. The 9 other face sunscreens this site tracks are not counted here; they are listed on our homosalate page. Labels checked October 1, 2026; Amazon listings checked October 22, 2026. This page names which products contain each filter. It does not say any filter is unsafe.
04 / Questions
Frequently asked
- Which sunscreens do not have octocrylene?
- 16 of the 38 face sunscreens we checked list no octocrylene. The best sellers among them: EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46, CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Face Sheer Tint, EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40, Colorescience Total Protection Face Shield Flex SPF 50. The table on this page marks every product, read from its US Drug Facts label in FDA's DailyMed.
- Which sunscreens have no oxybenzone or octinoxate?
- 35 of the 38 list neither. None of the 38 lists oxybenzone at all; 3 list octinoxate.
- Which sunscreens do not have homosalate?
- 14 of the 38 list no homosalate. The table on this page marks them. Our homosalate page shows which best sellers are above the EU face limit.
- Which sunscreens have no avobenzone or oxybenzone?
- 15 of the 38. The best sellers among them: EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46, CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Face Sheer Tint, EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40, CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30. The table on this page marks the rest.
- How do I check a sunscreen label myself?
- Read the "Active ingredients" lines in the Drug Facts panel on the box or bottle. US sunscreens must list each active and its percent there. If the only actives are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, none of these four filters is in it.
- Does this page say these filters are unsafe?
- No. It lists which products contain them, for shoppers who choose to avoid them. FDA allows all four in US sunscreens; in 2021 it asked makers for more data on several filters, which it says does not mean they are unsafe. Talk to a dermatologist about any skin concern.
