• June 9, 2026: FDA announced it added bemotrizinol to the US list of allowed sunscreen ingredients. FDA calls it the first new sunscreen active ingredient added since the late 1990s. FDA press release
• Up to 6%. The order allows bemotrizinol at up to 6%, in a product with an SPF of at least 2. FDA final order OTC000039
• August 9, 2026: the order took effect. The first US labels with bemotrizinol reached DailyMed the next day.
• 18 months of exclusivity. The order says only DSM, the company that asked for it, and its licensees may sell products under it for 18 months after it takes effect. That is one reason the list is still short.
• Europe allows up to 10%. In the EU it is listed as bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine (Annex VI, entry 25). Source: EU CosIng database.

We left out 15: 4 marked "export only," 2 listed as "unapproved drug other," and 9 filed between 2010 and 2020, years before FDA allowed bemotrizinol in US sunscreens. Being left out here does not mean a product is unsafe. It means it is not a US label under the new rule.

Which sunscreens have bemotrizinol in the US?

As of October 9, 2026, 5 US sunscreen labels list bemotrizinol; 2 are sold on Amazon. The five labels are Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Daily Face Sunscreen SPF 70 (6%), Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen Acne Prone Skin SPF 60 (6%), Ultra Violette Fave Screen SPF 50 (5%), Ultra Violette Unblock Screen SPF 50 (3%) and Juyasuyon Invisible Sunscreen stick (3%). We count a label only if FDA's DailyMed lists it under the US sunscreen monograph, it was published on or after June 9, 2026, and it has 6% bemotrizinol or less.

Where can I buy a bemotrizinol sunscreen in the US?

On Amazon, as of October 20, 2026: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Daily Face Sunscreen SPF 70 ($16.97, sold by Amazon.com) and Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen Acne Prone Skin SPF 60 ($16.99, sold by Amazon.com). Amazon titles them "with BEMT." We searched Amazon for each of the five products by name. We did not find the others sold by their brands.

Is bemotrizinol available in the USA?

Yes, since this summer. FDA added bemotrizinol to the US list of allowed sunscreen ingredients, at up to 6%. FDA announced it on June 9, 2026, and the order took effect on August 9, 2026. The first US labels with it appeared in DailyMed in August 2026.

What about the "Bemotrizinol Sunscreen" listings on Amazon?

On September 29, 2026, 6 of the top 10 Amazon results for "bemotrizinol sunscreen" were sold under brand names that do not appear on any DailyMed bemotrizinol label. We could not match them to a US drug label, so we do not link them.

What is bemotrizinol called on ingredient lists?

Bemotrizinol is the US drug name. On EU-style ingredient lists (INCI) it is called bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine. The EU allows it at up to 10%. The US allows up to 6%.

Do Garnier Ombrelle or Kiehl's sunscreens with bemotrizinol count?

Not here. DailyMed lists 4 L'Oréal labels with bemotrizinol (three Garnier Ombrelle, one Kiehl's), but each one is marked "export only," which means it is made for sale outside the US.
