Dyson vs Dreame Airstyler: Airwrap vs AirStyle Pro
Thick or long hair: buy the Dyson Airwrap i.d. ($649). Fine or heat-damaged hair: buy the Dreame AirStyle Pro ($219.99) and save about $429. The Dreame wraps curls like the Dyson, but its top heat is only 176°F. Both TechRadar and Tom's Guide found it slow to dry thicker hair, and TechRadar found its curls dropped quickly.

Quick answers
- Is the Dreame AirStyle Pro as good as the Dyson Airwrap?
- Not on heat or curl hold. The AirStyle Pro has two heat settings, 122°F and 176°F; TechRadar lists the Airwrap's low and high at 140°F and 194°F. TechRadar's tester could not dry collarbone-length wavy hair with the Dreame and found its curls dropped especially quickly. Its auto-wrap barrels worked well, "similar to the Airwrap."
- Which is better for fine or heat-damaged hair?
- The Dreame. Tom's Guide says its gentle heat is ideal for fine or heat-damaged hair, and TechRadar says those with very fine or short hair may find its cooler dryer mode just right.
- Which is better for thick or long hair?
- The Dyson. Tom's Guide says thicker or longer hair will find the Dreame's drying time frustrating, and TechRadar says its lower temperatures likely will not dry and style thick or long hair.
- How much cheaper is the Dreame AirStyle Pro?
- $429 less than the Airwrap i.d. ($219.99 vs $649 on Amazon). Dreame's list price is $399.99, and TechRadar says it is often discounted, so you will rarely pay full price.
- Can the Dreame curl in both directions like the Dyson?
- Not on one barrel. The Dreame comes with two 32 mm auto-wrap barrels, one for each direction, so you swap barrels to change direction. TechRadar says the Airwrap is the only styler of this kind that curls both ways on one barrel, and the i.d. has a switch that runs wrap, curl and cool shot for you.
- Do the Dreame attachments stay on?
- Not always. Both TechRadar and Tom's Guide report that the attachments twist on with no click, and that they can come loose while you style. TechRadar's round brush fell off more than once while curling.
- Is there a better buy than the AirStyle Pro at its price?
- Both reviews point to the Shark FlexStyle at a similar price: TechRadar sees no real reason to pick the Dreame over it, and Tom's Guide says it might be a better investment. It is $249.99 on Amazon today. See our Dyson Airwrap dupe report for the full comparison.

How each one works on your hair
-
Dyson Airwrap i.d. · $649 on Amazon
The barrels pull hair on by themselves, and the curl button runs the wrap, heat and cool shot for you, so even curls take little skill. Curls look neat and last longer than other air stylers, but they still drop sooner than curls from a hot iron, most of all on fine or damaged hair. Good for: People who want the easiest auto-curl and will pay top price; long or medium hair that holds a curl.
-
Dreame AirStyle Pro · $219.99 on Amazon
It looks and feels premium, with a faux-leather finish, a well-placed cool shot and attachments that are varied and well designed. Its heat is low: TechRadar's tester could not dry her hair with it, and Tom's Guide gave it 3.5 out of 5 and said curls are tricky to master and do not last. The attachments twist on without a click and can come loose. Good for: fine, straight or heat-damaged hair, and anyone who wants a good-looking tool for less.
