Best water flosser
Buy the COSLUS C20. COSLUS is on the American Dental Association's Seal list for water flossers, its 300 mL tank holds more than any Waterpik or Philips cordless we compared, and it costs $35.98 on Amazon. Want a Waterpik? The Waterpik Cordless Pulse is $34.95, but its tank lasts only about 45 seconds.

Quick answers
- What is the best water flosser?
- The COSLUS C20 ($35.98 on Amazon). It is a cordless flosser from a maker on the ADA Seal list, with a 300 mL tank and 30 days per charge. Amazon shows 60K+ bought in the past month.
- Waterpik or COSLUS?
- Both makers are on the ADA Seal list. The Waterpik Cordless Pulse ($34.95) is sold by Amazon and has a 2-year warranty, but its small 6 oz tank lasts up to 45 seconds, so you may need a refill. The COSLUS C20 holds 300 mL for about the same price.
- Is a water flosser better than string floss?
- Not proven better, but it works. The ADA says water flossers with its Seal "have been tested to be safe and effective" at removing plaque, and that they are "an option for people who have trouble flossing by hand." Ask your dentist if you have gum disease.
- Are water flossers FDA approved?
- They do not need to be. FDA classes a water flosser ("oral irrigation unit") as Class I, the lowest-risk group, and it is exempt from the premarket notification procedures (21 CFR 872.6510). So look for the ADA Seal, not an FDA claim.
- What is the best water flosser for braces?
- Any of the ADA-listed ones here. The ADA says water flossers can help people whose dental work "makes flossing difficult." Start on the softest setting, and ask your orthodontist which tip to use.
- What is the best cheap water flosser?
- The COSLUS C51 at $19.99. It is from the same ADA-listed maker and has the same 300 mL tank. It is newer, with fewer reviews than the C20.

The ADA's list names product lines, not every model. COSLUS's listings call the C20 and C51 "ADA Accepted"; the ADA's page names "Coslus Oral Irrigator." Waterpik's listings say the same for its cordless line. Want a plug-in flosser with a bigger tank? The ADA also lists the "Waterpik Countertop Family Water Flosser" (the Aquarius line). We did not find one sold or shipped by Amazon today.
02 / What to check
Three things that matter when you buy
- The ADA Seal list, not "FDA approved": FDA puts water flossers in Class I, the lowest-risk group, and they need no FDA review before sale (21 CFR 872.6510). The American Dental Association's Seal is the outside check. For COSLUS, the ADA found the product "safe and has shown efficacy for removing plaque and helping to prevent or reduce gingivitis, when used as directed."
- Tank size: a small tank runs out before you finish. Waterpik says its 6 oz Cordless Pulse tank gives "up to 45 secs floss time." Philips says its 250 mL tank covers "a full 60-second session." The COSLUS tanks hold 300 mL.
- Pressure settings: start low. COSLUS's own listing says to start on "Soft" the first time so your gums can adjust.
03 / How we checked
What we read, and what we did not do
On October 22, 2026 we read the ADA's Seal of Acceptance list for water flossers, FDA's rule for oral irrigators, and each flosser's Amazon listing. We check Amazon prices every night. We did not test the flossers ourselves, and we did not count claims the makers print about results in a set number of days. The Amazon links on this page may earn us a commission. It does not change the pick.
